Ho! Ho! Ho! Mary J Xmas to you and yours! Tis’ the season to be relaxing on your Xmas holidays, smoking a big fat, Santa-sized blunt, or chowing down on some festive edibles. After another long year of work, play and lots of cannabis, don’t you think it’s high time you got to put up your feet and… well, have some more weed?!
Since this time of year is so full of cheer – which usually comes in the form of gallons & gallons of alcohol – we thought it’d be a jolly idea to put together a list of marijuana drink recipes without alcohol. Infused cannabis mocktails are still potent enough to give you quite the holiday haze – if that’s what you’re after, because there are also lots of ways to get the flavors of your favorite cocktails just mixed with CBD instead.
What is a ‘cannabis cocktail’ or ‘cannabis mocktail’? Are THC/CBD infused mocktails the same thing as cannabutter drinks? What are the most festive, delicious and popular marijuana drink recipes without any alcohol for a “sober” Christmas? Let’s pour ourselves some DIY wisdom from Haute Health’s amazing crew this holidaze. Once you try these cannabis mocktails, you’ll never go back to boozing!
What Is A Cannabis Mocktail?
Cannabis cocktails, mostly known by their pet name ‘cannabis mocktail’, are artisanal, flavorful and eye-catching drinks that are infused with all sorts of cannabinoids. Usually people have infused THC mocktails to get a good buzz going, but there’s also a huge surge in the popularity of CBD drinks – i.e. the kind to have after a few real cocktails, to try and bring the buzz down or sober-up.
Cannabis mocktails are typically infused with cannabinoids. What does ‘infused’ mean, exactly? Infused mocktails indicate that an extra step is included to not just mix the cannabinoids into the drink, but to merge the two together through heat, pressure or some alchemical processing.
Cannabutter drinks, for instance, are considered infused because the cannabutter extract mixture is melted into hot drinks like tea, coffee, cocoa and the like. The act of heating the cannabinoids effectively “activates” them and makes them readily available for absorption in the bloodstream.
Many cannabinoid extracts in isolates or oils are already primed to be absorbed into the body, so they can be mixed into cannabis cocktails, stirred and ready to be sipped on. This is where most of the marijuana drink recipes without alcohol come into play. We’ve put together the absolute best cannabis mocktails for the holiday season, but feel free to play with your very own festive creations.
8 Infused Cannabis Mocktails For The Holidaze
‘8 Crazy Nights’ was a classic holiday film by the G.O.A.T. of wholesome comedy, Adam Sandler. We were inspired after watching this flick while high at a company staff party to come up with ‘8 Cannabis Cocktails’ – not as “crazy” as an animated movie about the holidays, but it’ll certainly lead to some crazy Christmas memories with some of the hard-hitting THC infused mocktails on this list.
Keep in mind that all of these cannabis mocktails and cannabutter drinks are customized by our amazing staff. One of the best parts about infused mocktails is that they can be crafted with just about anything – Peanut Butter & Jelly smoothie? Sure! Cranberry, blood orange and basil leaf cocktail? Absolutely! The only limitation for creating your very own marijuana drink recipe without alcohol is your imagination.
Without further ado, here are the 8 best infused cannabis mocktails we came up with, for you & yours to enjoy this holiday season:
POT COOKIES & MILKSHAKE
This one is straight out of Santa’s playbook, and even though it sounds like a snack it’s actually a dessert drink, so hold your reindeers for a minute while we explain. First you make some ooey, gooey pot cookies using one of the all-time greats in cookie strains: Monster Cookies. If you need a recipe for some kickass weed cookies, we’ve got lots of blogs on the baked goods you can check out.
Once the cookies are done, it’s time to whip up a tasty milkshake. Use the milk of your choice – we went with oat milk, and boy were we pleasantly surprised at how thick & creamy it was! For this recipe, we made a vanilla oat milkshake to keep it as close to Santa’s classic treat. Finally, crumble the pot cookies on top of the milkshakes or blend them together to make a cookie-smoothie. Now you know how ol’ Chris Cringle feels after his 1,099,871st cookie & glass of milk!
CRANBERRY SAUCED
Shifting gears to a more sour concoction than sweet, we’ve got the Cranberry mocktail of all mocktails. Instead of vodka we’re going to use chilled, filtered mineral water – use carbonated if you like the extra bite. Simply chill the water in the freezer for a couple hours, being sure to shake or stir it every 15-20 minutes so it doesn’t freeze solid. Then pour it into a shaker cup with frozen cranberries.
Next, add some THC or CBD isolate powder and shake it up vigorously. Alternatively, you can infuse each mocktail after it’s been poured into the final glass and use an oil dropper to dose each glass accordingly. This can lead to some drinks being more potent than others, so be aware of this method when making your own mocktails with a cannabis oil dropper.
Some of our crew preferred this beverage with chilled cranberry juice instead of water, for extra tartness and berry flavors. Either way, as long as you garnish the rim of each glass with some thyme and sugar, you have yourself a merry little glass of Christmas cheer.
HOT MUG OF COCANNA
Ever heard of a little combination in the world of weed, called “chocolate and cannabis”? Ya, we thought so. No self-respecting holiday treat list would be complete without a warm cup of cocoa . In this case, ‘cocanna’ brings together the best of both worlds for some sweet, velvety, chocolate satisfaction on top of the mind-numbing, body-high induced fun of cannabutter. As the first of our cannabutter drinks, we’d like to thank our previous cannabutter recipe maker for the awesome guide previously posted on our site.
Cannabutter is perfect for this infused cannabis beverage because it melts into thick, creamy, chocolate perfection. With the fatty oils in the chocolate, cannabutter coalesces into a drink to die for with every chocolatey sip. To make this for yourself or others, brew some hot water or your choice of milk. Once it’s fully heated, add the cannabutter first so it can melt fully and become saturated in the liquid. Then, mix in the chocolate powder – or melt real chocolate in there if you’re a true OG – and voila! Don’t forget to top with marshmallows, because only chumps drink hot cocanna without the fluffy white stuff.
TERRY’S CHOCOLATE ORANGE SMASH
Another fruity one after a savory one… are you sensing a pattern here? This one doesn’t have the satisfaction of actually banging one of the iconic Terry’s chocolate oranges against the table, but it incorporates the melt-in-your-mouth chocolate, the sweet-tartness of oranges, and getting smashed by the intense THC dose in this cannabis cocktail.
We recommend two different methods to concocting this festive feast of flavors:
- a) Brew some orange-flavored tea like pekoe, then melt in some THC chocolates
- b) Brew chocolate tea or hot-chocolate, and melt in some Orange Crush Wax
This is meant to be a potent drink, so you can even forego the hot drink idea and chill it after it’s melted & mixed together. We also had somebody on the team mention this would be a great smoothie idea, but we wanted to keep it more in the vein of “mocktail” than “morning breakfast”. Nevertheless, however you can smash that weed chocolate with the orange cannabis extracts, the better.
GOOD GRAVY
Hear us out… Please… A cup of ‘gravy’ can be a wholesome, delicious and filling drink. It’s not actually gravy, so before you go protesting the fat contents of this one, listen to the creative process first. Ganja gravy is something you probably haven’t heard of, but it’s known by many names out there – shatter juice, honey oil milk or kief tea. ‘Ganja gravy’ is just another term for the same idea – high-potency concentrates brewed, melted or infused into a liquid base.
To make this delectable, we decided to melt some of our top-choice shatter – White Rhino, baby! – into a mug of sage & thyme tea. To thicken this weird beverage up, add creamer or your choice of milk and reheat it on the stove. Top with cinnamon if it needs more of a spicy-sweetness, or up the sage for more of that gravy flavor. This definitely takes some imagination & open mindedness, but trust us it’s worth making – not to mention the shatter will have you jollier than St. Nick himself.
THE GRINCH
This writer’s personal favorite, and an absolutely timeless idea for any holiday party, is a drink we like to call “The Grinch”. Named after the Grump of Mt. Crumpet himself, this holiday cocktail is so potent that even the seasick crocodile feels better. Fair warning on how this drink will look: it’s mean, it’s green, and much like the Grinch it’s not entirely lean.
To get started, you first need to secure yourself some Green Crack – undoubtedly, the Grinch’s favorite strain of holiday weed. You can skip the buds and go for an extract already if you’d rather skip the step of decarboxylating your own weed, but we’ve got a great guide here to take you through the steps.
Now comes the part where we DIY a rig fit to impersonate Santy Claus himself. Take lime juice – or Mountain Dew if you’re lazy – and freeze it to the point of just becoming chunky. Once the desired slushiness has been achieved, pour the slush into martini glasses with a lime-salt rim (maybe some pepper for literal kicks… it’s something the Grinch would certainly appreciate!). Next comes the cherry on top – a big, bright, red cherry that matches the Grinch’s heart growing 3 sizes, is preferred.
The final step is to add a stir stick – if you’ve got a thirty-nine-and-a-half-inch candy cane lying around, now’s the time to put it to good use. Candy cane stir stick, red cherry with a whip-cream ring around it, lime slush and salt & pepper rim… a drink fit for any bah-humbugger this side of Whoville.
But wait! Where’s the weed come in?! We didn’t forget, so hold onto your stockings. If you’re decarbing your buds and making it into homemade oil, then pour the cannabis melt into the slush, around the entire surface – the cold slush will solidify the oil a bit, so be sure to mix it with your candy cane as you drink it. You should be using cannabis salt for the rim of the glass, and perhaps a THC candy cane, for extra Grinchy measure? If you’re going to steal Christmas, you may as well go all in – you’ve got garlic in your soul now, after all.
REINDEER FUEL
This drink will make your nose redder than Rudolf’s, you’ll feel as high as Santa’s sleigh, and you might even have thoughts of climbing down the chimney – but seriously, don’t do that. This one is meant to be chilled and drunk cold, but if you need some warmth during the cold months then we understand if you flip the recipe on its head – just beware the antlers!
‘Reindeer Fuel’ is an amalgamation of all things noel – cold apple-cinnamon cider, cinnamon sticks, apple slices, strawberries, nutmeg and a Dasher of whipped cream. Here’s how it’s made:
Pour the cinnamon-apple cider
Cut up very thin apple slices and let them float in the cider
Fill the rest of the glass with whipped cream
Sprinkle nutmeg and more cinnamon on the topping
Place a giant red strawberry on top for the Rudolf nose
Garnish with chocolate reindeer antlers (you might have to ask Santa for those)
Rim the glass with THC isolate powder, sprinkle it on top of the toppings, or mix it in with the juice in the first step.
SILENT NIGHTCAP
Like the song suggests, this cannabis mocktail is perfect for when you need to zone out, unplug, unwind, and check out of this world for a truly peaceful, silent night.
You’ll need just a couple things: blueberry juice (for the dark, night sky), icing sugar (for the stars) and THC Distillate (for the tripping part). This one is simple, but it’s particularly potent with the THC Distillate – dose however you feel comfortable, just be careful with this powerful stuff. Alternatively you can make your own THC ice cubes and put those in instead of distillate, just be aware that the THC will be slowly released into the mocktail as the ice cubes melt.
